Angela Ou, MA, BS — Advanced Clinical Intern
-
Meet Angela.
Angela Ou (she/her) is currently pursuing her master’s degree in mental heath counseling at Teachers College, Columbia University. Prior to this, she earned a master’s degree in social work from the University of Chicago. Previously, Angela spent time diving deep into the exploration of psychology and working on research that focuses on mental health stigma influenced by familial and cultural values among Asian American populations. Her experience taught her the importance of exploring the intersectionality of our identities and the deepening of human relationships.
As an international student from various Asian cultures of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China, Angela has learned the difficulties of identifying as a ‘third’ culture and the way each culture holds its nuances. Relocating from one city to another, she understands the complex feelings of being far away from home and the trepidation of adapting to a new lifestyle. Angela believes that the mind and body holds an incredible capacity for self-healing. At times, we may need more support to reconnect with our inner strengths and move through life's experiences with greater clarity and compassion. Her therapeutic approach focuses on creating a warm, safe, and supportive environment where healing can unfold naturally. Through a collaborative relationship, Angela helps clients explore the roots of troubles, connect to the most authentic self, and reclaim life’s meaning and purpose.
Angela’s developing theoretical orientation is rooted in an integrative approach. With a person-centered framework, she draws from psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness approaches to help clients rediscover resiliency and identify values close to our hearts.
