Racquel Samuel, LMSW — Staff Therapist

  • Meet Racquel.

Racquel Samuel (she/her) is a licensed social worker who completed her Masters in Social Work from Fordham Graduate School of Social Service. Her journey began with a focus on supporting high school and college students from racially marginalized communities throughout New York City. She provided academic and social support through college access programs and created supportive spaces prioritizing mental health for students and their families. She works as a staff therapist at The New School’s Counseling Services in New York City, primarily treating students of the global majority, LGBTQ+ students, international students, and first and second-generation college students.

Racquel is currently a PhD student in CUNY’s Graduate Center Developmental Psychology program. Her research centers around the biological underpinnings of stress and its profound impact on areas such as race-based traumatic stress, intergenerational trauma, adverse childhood experiences, and immigration stress.

Racquel's therapeutic approach is warm and rooted in empathy, cultural understanding, and collaboration. Drawing from her personal background as a Black woman and first-generation American, as well as her professional background and research experience, she tailors each session to the unique needs of her clients, providing tools and insights to navigate life’s challenges.
